Roku’s CEO Reveals Some of the Most Popular Under the Radar Channels…

Roku31Roku’s CEO Anthony Wood recently sat down with Business Insider to talk about all things Roku and streaming. During that interview he was asked, “Are there apps that are popular on Roku that might not be popular elsewhere?”

Anthony Wood replied, “Church, there are a lot of church apps on Roku. The Mormon church app is popular. International content, like Indian language programming, Korean language programming. Nichey content is very popular. Music is very popular, both Spotify, as well as music videos [and] Vevo. The anime channel Crunchyroll is very popular. Fitness. There’s a long, long tail.

Roku has higher streaming hours than any other platform per user. So there’s a lot more they do on Roku. It’s two to three times Apple TV, Chromecast, and Fire.

So there is no real surprise here that Church content would be popular as 70% of all Americans describe themselves as Christians. International content is also huge as it really is the only way to watch content from around the world that is not on cable. Yet music may be a surprise to many readers who see Roku as a video, not an audio, device.

Anime is also a great example of a widely popular genre that is not available on traditional cable TV like it is with streaming, making Roku a great way to access content you want when you want it and how you want it. Something cable just cannot offer the way Roku can.

So what are your favorite under the radar Roku channels?
