“With Instant Signup, customers can start a free trial with just a few clicks when activating their Roku devices, and then directly access content on the channels without any additional steps. Roku Pay then automatically handles the auto-renewals of the trials to paid subscriptions.” Roku said in a statement on its developer blog.
Now it is important to remember that if you don’t cancel the service you will get billed for it through the payment method on file with your Roku account. Roku does say they will remind you before you are billed so you can remember to cancel before the end of your free trial.
This new instant signup program is great news for both Roku Channel owners and Roku player owners. This will make testing out new services easier by removing the need to create an account for each service you want to test. It also helps owners of smaller Roku Channels easily accept new customers by letting Roku handle the signup process.
Roku did announce that Roku channels with over 10 million hours of streaming over three months will be required to support Instant Signup after March 31st, 2020. This is to give developers time to build the feature into their Roku Channels.
