Roku Users Lost Access to Spectrum App Over the Long Weekend

Spectrum customers took to social media and the Roku message boards over the holiday weekend to look for help with opening the Spectrum app on their Roku devices. Many customers were getting the same error message: Spectrum TV is only available in the U.S. and its territories, ref code RLC-1002. Some noted that they were unable to use apps that required a provider login as well.

Roku users say the issue started with the Roku home screen updated with a new summer theme.

Some users commented that after looking up the error code, the instructions said to resolve the issue, users could delete and re-install the app. Others said they called Spectrum customer support and were given the same advice. The problem is that Roku has removed the Spectrum app from the Roku Store, so it isn’t available to re-install.

Roku removed the Spectrum app from the store in December, as a result of the two companies being unable to agree on terms of renewing their contract. Customers who already had the app installed were able to continue using the app without interruption, but the app is no longer available for new downloads.

Roku has been responding to tweets about the issue, suggesting a system update that won’t delete the app, saying “We suggest you run a quick update on your Roku by going to Settings > System > System update > Check now. Restart your Roku and try again. Let us know if that helped solved the issue.”
