Roku Update Breaks WatchESPN

WatchESPN-on-Roku-TV-home-1024x576The recent update to Roku OS7 has broken parts of the WatchESPN channel on Roku. When you go to replay many recorded games, like NCAA football, the Roku crashes and reboots even on newer Roku 4s.

We contacted Roku and received this comment:

“We are aware of a bug related to the replay of some content within the WatchESPN channel on Roku devices. We’re actively working with the WatchESPN development team to address this bug and develop a solution.”

This is an annoying bug that seems to be more of an issue with the WatchESPN channel than with the Roku OS7. As with all major upgrades to an operating system some apps will have issues and need to be updated. It seems that WatchESPN used an older system of play back that is no longer supported by Roku OS7.

While most app developers have already updated to the newer system, there seems to have been some issues with the Roku OS7 and the WatchESPN channel on Roku OS7. This bug does not affect live streams on the WatchESPN channel. It just effects some users’ ability to replay content on their Roku.

Hopefully ESPN is able to update their Roku channel to fix this issue.
