Roku TV is the Top Smart TV OS of 2019 (Cordie Awards 2019)

Streaming tv and remoteWe’ve covered the top streaming devices of the year, but not everyone wants to have a separate device for streaming. Many choose a smart TV with their preferred operating system and stream straight from their TV.

We asked Cord Cutters News readers what their favorite smart TV OS for the year has been and the votes are in.

Roku TV came in on top with 50.7% of the votes. Samsung was next with 13.7% of votes. In third was Amazon Fire TV with 10.1%, followed by Android TV 7.7% and Vizio with 5.3% of the votes. The remaining 12.5% said other.

Roku’s lead isn’t surprising. In May 2019, Roku announced during their Quarter 1 earnings report that they were officially the #1 selling smart TV OS in the US.

Meanwhile, Amazon was working on new TV models with their OS built in, including the 65″ Fire TV Edition Smart TV with 4K Dolby Vision HDR from Toshiba.

With new streaming services like Apple TV+ and Disney+ including support for smart TVs and existing services expanding support to cover more smart TVs, many cord cutters have found that streaming from their smart TV was more convenient than ever in 2019.
