Roku TV Are Now the #1 Selling Smart TV OS in the United States

Yesterday Roku announced during their 1st quarter 2019 earnings report: they are now the #1 selling smart TV OS in the US.

According to Roku, more than one-in-three smart TVs sold in the US now run the Roku OS. This comes as Roku TVs saw a 21% jump in Roku Player sales over the same period in 2018.

“Our brand strength reflects our commitment to delivering a compelling, high-value user experience. Survey data shows that roughly 60% of consumers who buy Roku TVs say that the Roku brand was an important factor when selecting a smart TV. Meanwhile, brand awareness and engagement of The Roku Channel continues to grow. Roughly 40% of new users surveyed said access to The Roku Channel positively influenced their purchase decision,” Roku said in a statement on their website.

Roku also announced that they signed up 2 million new accounts in 2019. That does not mean 2 million devices sold, because one account could mean 20+ streaming players. It means Roku signed up 2 million new customers who never had a Roku before.
