Roku Rolls Out an Update to Fix WiFi Issues on Some Roku TVs

For about a month there have been reports of Roku TVs struggling to connect to Wi-Fi networks. Now Roku has confirmed to Cord Cutters News that they have rolled out an update to TVs affected by this Wi-Fi bug.

About a month ago some Roku TVs would suddenly just lose connection to your Wi-Fi network. When you tried to connect to a network often the Roku TV would be unable to find any Wi-Fi networks at all. As best Cord Cutters News can tell these issues started when an update rolled out in November 2018 that only affected some Roku TVs.

Now Roku says they have rolled out a targeted update to Roku TVs affected by this issue. If your TV is unable to connect to Wi-Fi preventing you from downloading the update, some readers have reported that doing a factory reset will allow you to reconnect to Wi-Fi and download the update.

You can check for an update by going to Settings > System > System update menu and click on the Check Now. If you see no recent update and no new update is available for your Roku TV, your model is not one of the TVs affected by the bug.

Wi-Fi issues are not uncommon in smart devices like TVs. Earlier this year Google had to roll out an update to fix a bug in Chromecast and Android devices that could temporarily knock out home Wi-Fi networks. This update shows how Roku is willing to make sure their TVs get the updates they need even when they may be older Roku TV models.
