Roku OS 13 Is Coming Soon as Beta Tests Begin

Last fall, Roku announced the Roku OS 12.5 update, which featured the ability to follow a favorite team and have it let you know how to watch the game, as well as an expanded channel lineup. Other additions include the ability to link the image screensaver to your Google Photos account, allowing you to use your own photos. This is in addition to a long list of minor improvements and bug fixes.

A more significant update is coming with Roku OS 13, with the smart TV company releasing the first beta of the operating system to developers this month.

With this update Roku, said Roku TVs will be able to better optimize their sound and picture based on different content genres, according to its blog post. This is likely a reference to the already announced feature that will let Roku TVs auto adjust your picture mode for the best possible image.

Roku also announced new features to fix bugs and automate new app testing. You will also find improvements to accessibility information for audio and subtitle tracks.

These are a few of the improvements that have been announced. Roku has a history of hiding new features even to the point that where users stumble upon them after the updates have been rolled out.

There’s no word yet on the release date. The timing of the update and Roku’s history suggest a spring 2024 update is likely, but it’s always subject to delays or even an early release based on the beta test.

A spokesman for the company wasn’t immediately available to comment on timing.
