Roku OS 12.5 Update Has Started to Roll Out to Roku TVs & Roku Players – Here is How to Get It

Earlier this week, Roku announced multiple new features coming to the latest version of its operating system coming to its Roku TVs and Roku players designed to make finding what you want easier. It also said that its Roku Channel’s TV guide now offers more than 400 live channels. Now, Roku has slowly started to roll this update, with multiple readers reporting getting the update overnight.

To see if you can get the update, you need to manually update your Roku TV or Roku Player. Here is how to check to see if you can get the new Roku OS 12.5 update:

  1. Press the Home button  on your Roku remote.
  2. Scroll up or down and select Settings.
  3. Select System.
  4. Select System update.
    • Note: The System update screen displays the current software and build version, along with the date and time of the latest update.
  5. Select Check Now to manually check for updates.

Roku said they will slowly roll out the Roku OS 12.5 to Roku TVs and Roku Players. Roku did not say exactly when each Roku model will get the new update.

A few highlights you will find with Roku OS 12.5 include the ability to easily follow a favorite team and have Roku quickly let you know how to watch the game, and the expanded channel lineup. You can now link Roku’s image screensaver to your Google Photos account, allowing you to use your own photos as the screensaver.

Roku also focused on an improved content discovery system to help you find something to watch.

Lastly, Roku will let you have more control of image quality and offer the picture settings directly from your TV. You can already access these features through the Roku Mobile app.
