Roku is Working on Selling a Home Security System

Earlier today, we learned that Roku was laying off 200 staff and had plans to focus on more profitable endeavors. Now according to Lowpass.cc, one of these endeavors will be a home security system.

According to multiple FCC filings, Roku will be releasing a security hub, entry sensors, motion sensors, and a home monitoring keypad. This will allow you to pay for home monitoring.

Home security systems are reportedly a $34.6 billion industry in 2023, according to Statista, which is a 12.7% growth over 2022. It seems Roku is hoping to get in on the growing demand for home security.

Roku already sells a line of security cameras that will likely be able to work with the new Roku home security system. Adding a home security system seems to be the logical next step.

Roku will push this brand under as “Protected by Roku Home Monitoring,” which will allow you to pay Roku a monthly fee to monitor your systems.

Like its smart home devices, it seems that Roku’s home security system will be manufactured by Wyze and sold under the Roku name. You should expect it to look very similar to the Wyze Home Security Core Kit sold on Amazon for $99.98.

No word on a release date but its likely coming in 2023.
