Roku is Getting Ready to Roll Out Roku OS 9.0

For some time now we have been hearing rumors of a new Roku OS update. Now posts have started to show up on Reddit about some Roku users getting a Roku OS 9.0 update.

Details are still thin but there have been rumors of new Roku players coming out later this year. Now a Roku Beta tester has posted on Reddit confirming that a Roku OS 9.0 is rolling out. Currently, Roku OS is at 8.1 so a jump to a Roku OS 9.0 suggest this will be a major update as they are skipping their typical .5 update.

Roku has also announced they plan to end some support for very old Roku SDKs that date back to the early days of the Roku OS later this year. This suggests that the new Roku OS 9.0 will be more than a few minor new features and bug fixes.

Exactly what is new is still unknown but from what beta testers have posted it looks like the user interface remains mostly the same. (At least at this point in the beta testing.)

So the question is what would you like to see with this next major Roku update? Leave us a comment and let us know what you want.
