Roku Has Released a New Roku Player Every Year for the Last 10 Years, Will 2019 Be Different?

roku premiere plusSince 2008, Roku has released a new streaming player every year without fail. From the very first Roku released in May 2008 to the most recent Roku Ultra released in 2018, a new Roku has come out every year.

Now this year many are wondering if Roku will keep this trend going with a new player. We already know that new Roku TVs are on the way this year, but what about a Roku player? There has even been reports that Roku is working on a Wi-Fi extender, but what about a new Roku player?

The good news for Roku fans hoping to get a new Roku player this year is that historically Roku releases their streaming players in September or October. Even as far back as 2009 and 2010 Roku has released a streaming player in October or September.

Roku typically does this in hopes of taking advantage of the Christmas buying season. Roku is not alone. Amazon and Apple have, in the past, tried to release close to the big Christmas buying season.

So, it is likely that we will still get a new Roku player this year, but we need to wait until at least September to officially learn what is coming.
