Roku is releasing a new software update that will give users new ways to connect with their favorite content and discover new content. The upgraded Roku experience includes more personalization, AI-powered tools, bluetooth headphone capabilities, and real-time sports updates.
Roku Voice Upgrades
Roku Voice will now be powered by AI. Ask Roku Voice questions and you’ll get answers. For example, ask “Is the Barbie movie for kids or adults?” and you’ll see the answer on your screen. Roku will tell you that the movie appeals to both kids and adults, along with information about the movie and its themes. You can also ask follow up conversations. Roku Voice will keep up with the conversation.
New “Ways to Watch” Button
Roku has been upgrading its search feature and finding new ways to show users what to watch next. Now, they’re expanding it to the Live TV Zone and in the coming months, the Live TV Channel Guide. With the search feature, you can quickly navigate to your favorite channels, explore new genres, and go straight to show and movie titles.
A new upgrade makes jumping to content even faster. Now, when you search for content, you’ll see exactly where to stream the title, with up to two services featured under each title, based on what you’re already subscribed to. Trailer playbacks are also now more interactive, with the new Ways to Watch button, so you can launch content right from the preview.
Bluetooth Headphone Mode
Bluetooth Headphone Mode is rolling out globally to the Roku Streaming Stick and Streaming Stick Plus, bringing crisp, private audio to anyone who wants to watch and listen without distractions. Connect your Bluetooth headphones or earbuds and enjoy without disturbing anyone around you — no extra setup, no wires, just seamless sound.
Real-Time Sports Updates
Roku is rolling out two new features for sports fans – Live Scores and Reminders. Live scores will show up under game titles so you can quickly check in on multiple sporting events at once, without spending time opening separate apps. Scores update in real
time, keeping you informed and always in the know. Prefer to avoid spoilers? No problem. You can choose to hide scores as well.
Reminders are designed to make sure you never miss a game. Set reminders for upcoming events from the Roku screen. Roku will send you a mobile notification when it’s time to tune in.
Mobile App Upgrade
The Roku mobile app will be getting an upgrade in the coming weeks. Look for the addition of shortcuts to some user-requested tools including Closed Captions, Find My Remote, Sleep Timer, Daily Trivia, and more. The app will also be getting a new Rate button that lets you Like, Dislike, or mark a title as Watched. Your feedback will sync across devices so you’ll get more personalized recommendations.
