Roku Ended 2018 with a 40% Jump in Active Accounts & a 68% Jump in Streaming Hours

This week Roku gave us a sneak peek into their fourth quarter 2018 numbers for what once again ended up being a record-setting quarter. According to Roku, they ended 2018 with 27 million active Roku accounts, up 40% from the same time in 2017. Now it is important to remember that active accounts do not mean active devices. One account can represent as many as 20 Roku players.

Roku also announced that they have hit an estimated 7.3 billion hours of streaming in the fourth quarter of 2018, up 68% from the same period in 2017.

“Strong active account growth and accelerating streaming hours point to consumers’ growing enthusiasm for streaming, making Roku America’s largest and fastest growing TV streaming distribution platform,” said Roku CEO Anthony Wood. “In 2018, we maintained our leadership in streaming players, licensed smart TVs and TV streaming hours. Roku continues to bring viewers more choice, great value, a compelling user experience – and lots of TV fun.”

Roku said they will announce their full 2018 fourth quarter numbers in February 2019.
