Roku Announces Their Spring Roku OS 8.1 Update

Today Roku announced that their spring 2018 update will be their Roku OS 8.1 update. With this update, you will find a ton of backend bug fixes and a few front end changes.

One of the biggest announcements for the 8.1 update is the ability to have multiple users use the private listening feature through the Roku mobile app. This means more than one kid in the house can watch the same thing through headphones and not disrupt their parents.

While that is the big announcement Roku made they also say there will be many backend bug fixes and improvements. For now, we will have to wait until we get a bit closer to the update to find out what bug fixes Roku is including in the 8.1 update.

Roku also has a history of adding new features but not including them in the list of new features on an update. Recently Roku updated their voice search to allow you to use the voice search without exiting the channel you are in.

Roku in the past also made some unannounced changes like asking you to confirm a quick button press if you are already streaming something. That update showed up without any fanfare.

So when the 8.1 update rolls out in May 2018 keep an eye open for more features that may have not been on the release notes.
