Now TDG reports that of all broadband households in the United States 21% use a Roku and 23% use a Fire TV. This puts the two about even statistically.
“While Amazon Fire TV has more active users than Roku globally, when we focus on the US market only and separate streaming boxes and sticks, the competitive landscape is a bit more even,” a TDG rep says in a statement on its website.
What is most interesting is the breakdown of who dominates what device category. Roku dominates streaming boxes with almost 51% of all streaming boxes sold being a Roku. Amazon dominates streaming sticks with over 56% of all streaming sticks being a Fire Stick. Yet when you average everything out against all broadband households they came in about even statistically.
A few other numbers: Apple TV has about 26.7% of set-top boxes and Chromecast has about 2% of all streaming sticks.
