Review: The 2019 Fire TV Cube From Amazon vs The 2018 Fire TV Cube

Today the 2019 Fire TV Cube hits stores with its new hexa-core processor making it more than twice as powerful as the first-generation Fire TV Cube. The question now is will this new more powerful processor show up when you take it home and plug it in. Thanks to Amazon we got our hands on an early review unit for the Fire TV Cube so we could let you know what we think of the new 2019 Fire TV Cube.

This new cube offers Dolby Vision HDR, HDR 10+, and 60 fps 4K. Amazon once again includes far-field voice control built directly into the new Fire TV cube, so you can use Alexa to control your TV even if you don’t have the remote. The Fire TV Cube will also be able to control other devices in your living room using the multidirectional infrared and HDMI CEC protocols to turn on and off your TV, soundbar, A/V receiver, and more.

This all sounds great but the real question now is if the 2019 Fire TV Cube will be faster than the 2018 version. The 2018 version on paper looked very powerful but it split that between the built-in Echo and the Fire TV streaming player. That made the Fire TV Cube slightly slower when streaming compared to the Fire TV Stick 4K in our testing. The good news is we are happy to report the new Fire TV Cube is not just faster but significantly faster than the older 2018 model. Now it may not be fast enough to make people want to upgrade, but it is fast enough for us to say if you need a new Fire TV, this new Fire TV Cube is now our pick for the best Fire TV on the market right now.

You can watch our full review/unboxing of the 2019 Fire TV Cube including the side by side speed test of the 2018 vs the 2019 Fire TV Cube here:

The new 2019 Fire TV Cube will cost $119.99 and is now available at Amazon.com.
