Reports Suggest Amazon Could Postpone Prime Day in Wake of Coronavirus

Reuters is reporting that Amazon could be aiming to move its annual Prime Day event to at least August in the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Meeting notes suggest the shift could cost the company millions in revenue, and possibly force Amazon to sell a surplus of devices at a discount.

The company’s Prime Day, which acts much like a mid-year Black Friday, typically happens in the summer — last year’s event stretched across two days in July. It’s usually an excellent time for shoppers to score significant deals on various devices, especially Amazon’s own Fire TV line, including the Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Cube.

Amazon has also touted sales performance during previous Prime Days. In fact, last year, the company issued a press release boasting that the 2019 iteration outperformed the previous Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined. The release also pointed out the 2019 Prime Day was the biggest ever for Amazon devices, when compared to other two-day periods.

For now, Amazon hasn’t made an official announcement or responded to the rumors, but we’ll certainly keep an eye out and let you know if we here anything.
