Report: Vudu May Be Coming to the Fire TV

Last week for a short amount of time Vudu’s website listed the Fire TV as one of their supported devices. This was spotted by AFTVnews over the weekend and was even talked about on the Vudu forums.

Vudu quickly removed the listing from their site, locked the forum post, and removed the screenshot from their forums. Vudu did all of this without commenting on the possibility of the Fire TV support.

Vudu is owned by Walmart, which has had a rocky relationship with Amazon from the start. Yet recently a lot has changed. Mainly the launch of Movies Anywhere, which gives Fire TV owners access to many Vudu-purchased movies.

It is possible that Walmart is moving to launch Vudu on the Fire TV now that Movies Anywhere makes Vudu purchases already available on the Fire TV.

If Vudu does come to the Fire TV, look for it to be more like the Apple TV version than the Roku version. It is likely you will only be able to access the movies and TV shows you already own; however, it will also likely give you access to their new free catalog of movies.

Hopefully, Vudu makes a Fire TV app a reality soon.
