Report: Twitter, Amazon, YouTube, and Verizon Are Bidding For NFL Streaming Rights

Fans of soccer watching matchWell, it looks like the battle for NFL streaming rights is heating up. According to Variety right now Twitter, Amazon, YouTube, and Verizon are all bidding for rights to stream NFL Thursday Night Football.

Two years ago Twitter won the streaming rights. Last year Amazon had the rights to stream Thursday Night NFL Football. This year its anyone’s guess as to who will win the rights as streaming services see NFL streaming as a quick way to grow their streaming service. Last year Thursday Night Football brought in over 18 million viewers to Amazon. Now the NFL is hoping streaming rights will bring the NFL even more money as they sell the streaming rights.

This all comes as Fox recently won rights to broadcast NFL Thursday Night Football on broadcast TV. This means Thursday Night Football will move from NBC and CBS to Fox.

Exact terms of the deal to bring the Thursday night games to FOX are unknown but it is reported that they will pay more than $45 million per game. This comes as FOX sells off most of the company to Disney to focus more on sports and news. So maybe it is no surprise that FOX would be willing to spend top dollar to get more sports rights.

According to early reports, FOX is hoping a news and sports focus would help them as the world of pay-TV is changing. Sports and news are events most Americans still watch live making them more valuable when looking at ads sales.

For now, we will have to wait and see who wins streaming rights to this year NFL streaming rights.
