Report: Netflix Plans to Remake Lost in Space

Lost in SpaceAccording to Deadline, Netflix has won a bidding war among several interested parties for a brand-new Lost in Space series. It is rumored that this new remake will be similar to the original 1965 plot where the Robinson family is sent to colonize a planet only to end up lost, forcing the family to bond together to survive.

This is not the first attempt at a reboot of Lost in Space after the 1998 film series rights holder Synthesis Entertainment tried to get NBC to pick up a new show and the deal fell apart. In 2003 a John Woo-helmed TV pilot was offered to the now-defunct WB Network, which quickly passed on the pilot. No other networks seemed interested.

It has now been about 50 years since the original Lost in Space aired. The Twentieth Century Fox-produced show, which has three seasons and a total of 83 episodes, is still in syndication today. And, it looks like we may soon get to see new episodes once again.

No official date is set for the new show to air on Netflix, and it is not likely to air in 2016. Viewers may have to wait until 2017 or maybe even 2018 for a new Lost in Space, but stranger things have happened and it could come out in late 2016.
