According to the poll, 90% of Americans say the most important factor when deciding to subscribe to a TV or streaming service is cost. With most Americans thinking cable TV is unaffordable it is easy to see what cable TV subscribers are fleeing to cheaper streaming services.
This comes a few months after research from cg42 says cord cutters save on average $85 a month according to a survey of 3,385 consumers. According to that survey, the average cable customer paid $203 on average for TV and internet, whereas the average cord cutter paid $118 on average for internet and TV. We have seen studies like this for some time now. This is only the most recent study, and it not only looked at TV costs but also internet costs.
The fact that most cable TV subscribers also subscribe to a streaming service is one of the biggest blows against the idea that cable is cheaper than cord cutting. Increasingly the shows people want to watch are no longer available through traditional pay-TV services.
