Study: Most Americans Still Prefer Their Big TV to a Smartphone

Watching tv and using remote controlFor years we have heard that smartphones and tablets are how Americans are watching TV and that they no longer watch TV on a TV. A new study from nScreenMedia seems to show that while short form content is being consumed more on phones and tablets overall most Americans are still watching TV on their big screen TV.

According to the study, in 2017, during the 9 to 10 PM hours 48% of viewing was on a connected TV, 11% on a smartphone, 22% on a tablet, and 19% on a PC.

When looking at what devices Americans use the report shows that a connected TV “has the best video reach of all devices among boomers. It delivers the highest engagement in all age groups.” The study went on to say that connected TVs are the “King of premium primetime viewing”

When looking at what devices streaming devices Americans like to travel with Roku is still in the lead at 42% followed by the Apple TV at 17%, PlayStation Vue at 12%, Xbox at 11%, Fire TV at 10%, and Chromecast at 6%.
