Streaming service DAZN is looking to get back into hosting Canelo Alvarez fights, according to a report by Mike Coppinger of ESPN.  As part of a 2-fight deal reportedly worth upward of $85 million, which is still being negotiated, DAZN will stream the third fight in the Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin trilogy, and another Alvarez fight. Details regarding the dates from Coppinger’s report:

Alvarez and Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing are closing in on a two-fight deal worth upward of $85 million for boxing’s top star to compete on DAZN, sources told ESPN. The first fight would pit Alvarez against light heavyweight titleholder Dmitry Bivol on May 7 in a return to 175 pounds.

Provided Alvarez wins, as expected, he would defend his undisputed 168-pound championship against GGG in a long-awaited grudge match Sept. 17, per sources.

If GGG and Canelo agree to a deal, it will be a highly-anticipated fight, as the last time the pair met was in 2018, which Canelo won by majority decision. In 2017, the pair met in the ring for the first time, resulting in a controversial split draw, which is available to watch on DAZN’s YouTube page.

Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KOs) and Alvarez (57-1-2, 39 KOs) are two of the most decorated boxers of their generation. The first two fights were a commercial success with over 2 million PPV buys combined and a combined gate of over $50 million.

Alvarez and DAZN have a history with each other after the boxer signed an 11-fight, $365 million deal with the streaming service soon after his second bout with GGG. However, 3 fights into the deal, he gained his freedom due to a settlement after suing the streaming platform and his promoter Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.

The clock is ticking to get the third fight between Canelo and GGG done as Alvarez is approaching 32 in July and Golovkin turns 40 in April. If both parties can agree to the terms of the deal then DAZN will be able to knock out another big fight on its platform.
