Report: Cox Reps Added Unwanted Services to Customers’ Accounts

A young woman is sitting in her kitchen and is loking at her receipts at home while using a smart phoneThis week several whistle-blowers came out and warned that Cox employees have been adding services to customer accounts the customers didn’t ask for.

According to the employees, this all started as an effort to get bonuses that could be worth over $12,000 a month some employees just started adding services that customers never requested. After talking with customers some reps would quietly add additional services to the account to help them hit their quota.

“How far they’re going for a commission payout, to affect thousands of people, it’s a heinous, greedy act,” said former Cox Communications employee Anna Wilkinson. Recently a complaint has been filed with the Federal Trade Commission and the Virginia State Attorney General’s Office.

This is a great remember to always check your statements to make sure you are only paying for the services you signed up for. This is particularly important for services you have auto pay set up for. This is not just for cable TV but all subscription services including wireless phone service.

If you ever find something on your bill you didn’t ask for, immediately file a complaint with the company and with your local attorney general. Make sure you press your complaint and let them know this is not what you signed up for.

Cox is not the only company that recently had this issue. AT&T reps in stores got caught signing people up for multiple DIRECTV NOW accounts to get higher commissions. So, check your bills and your bank statements.
