Report: Apple’s New Video Effort Slated for a 2019 Launch

For some time we have known that Apple was hard at work building a catalog of original shows recently. Yet Apple has been holding most of their content back without a set release date. Now it is looking like March 2019 is the target date for Apple’s new video efforts.

According to the New York Times, entertainment executives say Apple is targeting “somewhere between March 2019 and the summer of that year to roll out its slate of new programming.”

Exactly what Apple’s goals with their videos effort is still unknown. Is Apple trying to build a dedicated Netflix competitor? Or does Apple have some other goal? For now, we just don’t know what the long-term game is for Apple.

Recently Apple’s streaming video efforts have mostly been tied to their music service. Looking at the new flood of video content coming in 2019 it seems Apple has other plans. To help with their new video plan, Apple recently hired away Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht. Both formerly worked at Sony Pictures and include credits of “Breaking Bad” and “The Crown.”
