Remote App Support is Leaving Older Samsung Smart TVs

Samsung is shutting down its Smart View app that serves as a remote for older smart TVs this fall. The iOS and Android app will be discontinued on October 5th, 2020. Users report getting pop-ups notifying them about the news, and Samsung’s Play Store has the announcement in the app’s description.

Android Police was first to spot the update, which appeared on the app’s Play Store description.

Users who already have the app can continue using it after that time, but it will leave app stores after October 5th. However, many people have noticed glitches or reported that the app isn’t functioning at all for their device lately. The app only has a 1.9 star review on the app store accompanied by a slew of recent negative reviews.

The app also allowed viewers to stream music and other media to their Samsung TV. If you still want that capability, Chromecast will be the next best option for you. Samsung will keep its SmartThings app which serves as a remote function for smart TV models 2016 and newer.
