Reminder: Amazon’s HBO Deal is Coming To an End This Year

For some time now Amazon and HBO have had a deal to give Amazon Prime subscribers access to a back catalog of HBO shows. Now that deal is coming to an end.

While we can confirm that the deal will come to an end this year according to a Variety story; however, signs are pointing to May. Last year, for a short time, Amazon showed HBO shows as expiring in May only to later pull down the listings. Shortly after that HBO came out and said that they planned to pull their content from Amazon in 2018. No matter when HBO content is pulled, if you want to enjoy a ton of HBO content on Amazon you should hurry.

Even after HBO content is pulled from Amazon Prime you will still be able to buy HBO shows on Amazon Video. This just means they will no longer be free with Amazon Prime. It is no surprise that HBO is leaving Amazon Prime. Amazon has downplayed HBO content recently, and HBO has been pushing HBO live. The two services compete now in a way they didn’t four years ago. When the HBO and Amazon deal was first made HBO did not have its HBO NOW service or Amazon HBO Channel.

So if you want to catch up on great shows such as Sopranos or Big Love you better hurry because you have just a month to finish them. After that you will have to pay HBO or buy the seasons on DVD or on a streaming service.

Cord Cutters News did reach out to Amazon for comment on this story. Amazon declined to offer an update on their deal with HBO.
