Are You Ready to Pay More for Netflix? Netflix Is Quietly Testing a Price Hike

Last year Netflix got a lot of flack for raising the price for grandfathered subscribers to $9.99 a month in the United States. Now it seems Netflix is once again considering raising its rates for subscribers.

Over the weekend Netflix tested out a price hike in Australia. If you tried to subscribe to Netflix over the past weekend you would have seen prices as much as AU$3 higher than what you saw just a few days earlier.

“We continuously test new things at Netflix and these tests typically vary in length of time,” the company said in a statement. “In this case, we are testing slightly different price points to better understand how consumers value Netflix. Not everyone will see this test and we may not ever offer it generally.”

Netflix is well known for running random tests on its users whether that be pre-roll trailers or a new app on randomly selected users. Now this seems to be the first time Netflix wants to find out what is the breaking point for subscribers. How much can it charge before a subscriber will cancel their subscription.

This testing for now is limited to Australia, but this information can be used in any market to a point.

Would a price hike effect your willingness to subscribe to Netflix? If so what would your breaking point be?
