The ACA says Comcast has already violated antitrust laws repeatedly by allegedly exerting price pressure along with withholding “must-have” programming from local stations, squeezing rival cable distributors by threatening to raise prices and refusing to carry certain channels.
When the DOJ and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved the merger of Comcast and NBCUniversal in 2011, they were concerned the merger would post a threat to competition, which is why they only approved the merger with a set of guidelines governing Comcast-NBCU. Now, these limitations have come to an end and the ACA argues that Comcast is engaging in anti-competitive behavior.
The DOJ has already announced that they are monitoring Comcast’s behavior now that the guidelines and limitations have come to an end. According to sources that talked with Fox Business an antitrust inquiry into Comcast is being considered.
