Pluto TV Turns 10 Years Old This Week: A Look Back at This Ground-Breaking Streaming Service

In 2014 Pluto TV was founded by Nick Grouf, Tom Ryan, and Illya Pozin. Originally the service offered a curated list of almost 100 channels of content from places like YouTube and Vimeo. Now the service hopes to amass a lineup of both live TV channels and on-demand movies and TV from major studios. Now, on March 31, Pluto TV will turn ten years old.

The service is slightly older than one of its main competitors, Tubi, and has helped create the world of free ad-supported streaming that we know today.

Here are a few of the key moments in Pluto TV’s history:

Several big early deals helped it grow, including the 2015 deal with Hulu to distribute its free ad-supported content on Pluto TV.

In the early days, Pluto TV focused almost exclusively on live channels but in 2017 it started to let you pick when and what you wanted to watch on-demand.

In 2019 Pluto TV was purchased by Viacom. Later Viacom merged with CBS creating Paramount. This deal helped to secure access to a wide range of content that Pluto TV would not have if it wasn’t owned by Paramount.

The service has expanded to new areas around the world, adding more content and launching its own exclusive content.

To help celebrate its tenth anniversary, Pluto TV released a new logo. Pluto TV last updated its logo four years. This new logo is very different. Long gone is the bold white lettering and multi-colored logo. Now, Pluto TV has an all-yellow and black look with a circle around the Pluto part of Pluto TV instead of the TV side.

Here is what the old logo looked like:

Pluto TV is available on a wide range of devices, including Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Google TV, and others.

Pluto TV is showing no signs of slowing down as it continues to be one of the largest and most popular free ad-supported streaming services.
