Pluto TV, the Free Streaming Service, Just Raised 30 Million in New Funding

PlutoTVFireTVPluto TV took the cord cutting world by storm last year. It was even our runner-up for best new streaming service of 2015. Pluto TV takes content from around the web and puts it together in a neat cable-like look with channels covering everything from news, pop culture, and sports to live events such as the presidential debates.

Now to help grow the service they have raised $30 million dollars in new funding. Pluto TV says they plan to use the new funds to grow the service to become the OTT destination for free TV.

“With this funding and the expansion into Europe, Pluto TV is uniquely positioned to become the global OTT destination for free television. That’s the goal. That’s the future of TV,” said Tom Ryan, CEO, Pluto TV in a statement sent to Cord Cutters News.

“In only 18 months we scaled our viewership tenfold to an audience of more than 5 million monthly active viewers. That rapid growth affirms our belief that people love the simplicity of a lean back television service curated to their interests,” said Ken Parks, executive chairman, Pluto TV.

It should be interesting to see where Pluto TV goes in the future. It already has seen massive growth and change over the last year, and with this new funding they will likely continue to grow and change.
