Plex recently cut out many add-ons that allowed piracy and shifted its focus to streaming, but that does not seem like it’s enough.
“[T]he problem now finds itself on a dangerous precipice where it could easily slip right back into becoming a crisis again, as it was in the mid-2000s—before streaming was all the rage,” Creative Future writes.
“Thanks to a rapidly growing media application called Plex, torrent-based piracy is back in vogue and better than ever (for criminals who have no problem profiting from content that doesn’t belong to them, that is).”
The issue here is that Plex lets customers share content. Content companies see this as piracy. Plex says they are not responsible for what users do with the content.
Plex recently launched a legal ad-supported streaming service and has worked with music services. For now, we will need to wait and see if Plex is about to face the same scrutiny that similar services have received.
