PlayStation Vue vs DIRECTV NOW: Which is the Better Deal? We Take a Look (Updated July 2019)

In this post, we’re comparing PlayStation Vue and DIRECTV NOW.

Plans and Pricing

PlayStation Vue has a few different plan options to choose from. With the recent price increase from the streaming services, all packages now cost $5 more. Here are your option, along with the new prices.

DIRECTV NOW advertises two main packages. First is the Plus plan for $50 per month which is the option we’ll be discussing in this post. There’s also a Max plan with more channels for $70, along with five other plans that include add-on channels.

Channel and Price Comparison

One way to look at the value you’re getting from your streaming service is to compare how many channels you get for your money.

The PlayStation Vue Core package now costs $54.99 for 79 channels, making the cost about 70 cents per channel.

With DIRECTV NOW’s Plus package, you’ll pay $50 for 54 channels, making it $0.93 per channel.

Simultaneous Viewing

PlayStation Vue will let you watch 5 streams simultaneously. However, you can only watch on 3 away from your home area, including smartphones and tablets.

With a DIRECTV NOW subscription, you can stream on two screens at once. You also have the option to add a third simultaneous stream for an additional $5 per month.

Cloud DVR

Your PlayStation Vue Core subscription comes with “unlimited” Cloud DVR storage that will allow you to record up to 500 programs. Your content will be saved for 28 days.

With DIRECTV NOW, you’ll get 20 hours of DVR storage. Content is saved on your DVR for up to 30 days after recording.
