PlayStation Vue Starts Charging Sales Tax in More States

Depressed mature man holding paper and looking at it while sitting on the couch at homeLast week PlayStation Vue started to contact subscribers in select states to inform them that they plan to collect sales tax. PlayStation Vue had already collected taxes in select states and towns. Sony is expanding to collect sales tax in additional select states starting in November. This is the second time in the last few months that Sony has expanded collecting sales tax.

Here is the email Sony is sending out:

We are writing to inform you that PlayStation™Store, PlayStation™Vue, PlayStation®Plus, PlayStation™Now, and PlayStation®Music will start collecting sales tax in your state. The sales tax charged on each order is determined by your state, county, and city tax rates.

Sony has not said why they plan to start charging sales tax now. Recently there has been a push by states to collect sales tax from online services. And Amazon recently started to collect sales taxes in all states that charge them. Now other companies like Sony are following suit.
