Sony has yet to release a statement but Fox yesterday issued a statement on the issue. Here is that statement from Fox 29 in Philidelphia that was forwarded to Cord Cutters News:
There was some confusion as to whether our game should have been blacked out on the Sony side. This was due to the pre-season games being blacked out. We have corrected the problem and all NFL games will not be blacked out going forward.

Make sure to check your PlayStation Vue app to see if you can get a credit for the blackout.
Cord Cutters News did reach out to Sony for comment and they declined to comment on what caused the blackout.
