Now it is starting to look like Sony is hoping to use their movie and TV studios to create original content to attract new subscribers to PlayStation Vue.
It seems Sony is hoping that original programming will help them grow in the same way it helped Netflix and Hulu. Sony already has a growing catalog of original shows on their free Crackle streaming service, so creating originals for PlayStation Vue seems to be a natural next step.
If I had to guess, it seems like this will be an on-demand channel that will be full of Sony-created movies and/or TV shows. Though it is possible that Sony will try to also create a 24/7 stream of content.
PlayStation Vue will face a hard, uphill fight here. Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon have been locking up some of the best originals. With that said, if anyone could create high-quality originals Sony would be that company. With a huge catalog of content to pull from, Sony could offer many high-quality originals.
