PlayStation Vue Has Just 10 More Days to Strike New Deals with AMC, Discovery, NBC, & Turner

Playstation vue logoEarlier this month, PlayStation Vue announced that they are in renewal talks with AMC, Discovery, NBCUniversal, and Turner. All of these deals will come to an end this month leaving PlayStation Vue just 10 more days to strike deals.

Here is the statement Sony posted on the PlayStation Vue website about these negotiations:

Most of the programming/content you watch on PlayStation™Vue is licensed from programmers for the right to air their networks/channels. Once these agreements near expiration, we enter into renewal discussions where we work hard to obtain the best value for our customers. Though infrequent, sometimes certain licenses will not be renewed, in which case PlayStation™Vue would no longer carry the affected channels or networks. This section will be updated periodically to list channels and networks coming up for renewal. Please note that the dates listed below are subject to change.

So far no one with Sony’s PlayStation Vue has announced a deal with AMC, Discovery, NBCUniversal, or Turner Networks. Sony has not replied to our request for comment likely meaning talks are still underway.

Talks like these often go down to the last minute and can result in a short blackout. It is likely that Sony will renew these deals to keep the networks on PlayStation Vue. If one or more of them do get blacked out understand that they are likely to be re-added once a new deal is done.

Blackouts are very common in cable. Now that live TV streaming is coming into maturity many of the early contracts have ended or are ending. This means new agreements need to be made. Just like they would if it was a traditional cable TV service.
