Philo is Making it Harder to Tell if a Show is DVRed or Available From On Video On-Demand

This week Philo started to roll out an update to their apps on the Fire TV and Android TV that made a few changes to how the app works. One of the changes you will find is that Philo removed the tags that let you know if a show was DVRed or is available from their video-on-demand.

The reason this is important is that DVRed shows allow you to fast forward through commercials. (With some limitations.) Content that is on-demand has tougher rules limiting your ability to fast forward.

Here is what Philo said on Reddit about the change:

There are product and design plans that caused the removal of VOD and DVR tags, but don’t worry — we’re making your case to appropriate parties. Tiles were completely reworked in this release. The design is bound to improve from this initial implementation.

So far as best we can tell this change is only on the Fire TV and Android TV versions of the Philo app. Look for it to roll out to more apps soon.
