Philo is Expanding Voice Controls on Android TV

Today at Google IO it was announced that you will soon be able to launch into channels on Philo just by asking your Google Assitant on Android TV. For example, when this update rolls out asking Google on devices like the Nvidia Shield to “open  BBC American on Philo” and BBC American will start playing.

This announcement comes a few weeks after Roku announced a similar feature. No longer will asking for a show or movie bring up a results page. Now with Roku OS 9.1 if you ask Roku to play a show on Hulu it will launch directly into that show on Hulu. Now it sounds like Android TV wants to do the same and Philo was the service they demoed this on.

Google says that other apps will soon ad voice controls like this. Sadly no date has been announced for when this feature will roll out to Android TV owners.

Voice has become the next big feature in streaming players. Roku, Amazon, and Apple have all been rushing new voice controls out. Now Google is also expanding voice controls on Android TV.
