PGA Tour Will Stream Every Single Shot of The 2020 Players Championship

golf ball about to go into holeThe PGA Tour is making some big changes in the way viewers will experience each round. The Players Championship will now live stream every shot by all 144 players on the field, according to The Golf Channel.

“Our vision is to bring every shot in every PGA Tour golf tournament live and on-demand to our fans,” said Rick Anderson, the chief media officer for the PGA Tour. ”And this is the first step to making that happen.”

Those subscribed to NBC Sports Gold or Amazon Prime Video will have access to the entire Championship, shot by shot. This is a first for golf, requiring about 120 cameras, according to the report. The opening two rounds go on for around 12 hours and, during that time, viewers will be able to choose who they watch.

”You’ll be able to click on any group and watch that group play, and we do that for every golfer in the field,” said Luis Goicouria, the Tour’s senior vice president of media. ”We’re not viewing it from the perspective of who wants to watch a certain golfer. We’ve known for many years that the future of our sport absolutely involves taking all the content that is happening live and making that available to our audience. In golf, that’s a huge amount of content.”

As the PGA is developing this new technology and exploring live streaming events, they are also working on new deals for televising the Tour. Currently, the PGA Tour is wrapping up a 10 year deal with Discovery and GOLFTV which ends in 2021.
