Peacock Will Include Live TV, Tiered Pricing

NBC’s Peacock streaming service will set itself apart from competitors by offering live video and tiered pricing structure including limited-advertising version that will cost about $5 per month and an advertising-free version that will cost about $10 per month, according to sources for CNBC.

NBC is adding the live TV feature, as well as looking into options for pricing, as a way to stand out among the competition from services like Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max.

According to the source, different versions of the streaming service are being beta tested ahead of the April 2020 launch. It’s possible that subscribers will find a live stream of NBC News Now within the app.

NBC announced the upcoming launch of Peacock back in September. At that time, we learned that Peacock will include both existing NBC content and originals, totaling over 15,000 hours of content. Originals will include Dr. Death, based on a true crime podcast; a Saved by the Bell reboot; and a Saturday Night Live docuseries called Who Wrote That, among other titles.

Sources say that both paid tiers of the Peacock pricing structure will include the full content library. The $5 version will come with limited ads, while the $10 tier will be ad-free. It was also reported that a free version will be available with limited content. One source told CNBC that the free version will not include all episodes of The Office.

Comcast customers will reportedly have access to the limited ad version of Peacock, giving them access to the full suite of content.
