Peacock No Longer Offers a Free Option to New Customers

Been thinking about getting Peacock’s free tier? If you don’t already have it, you are out of luck. Peacock no longer offers a free tier. Now if you want to signup, you need to pay for the Premium $4.99 plan or the Premium Plus $9.99 plan.

If you have the free Peacock option, you can keep it, and if you stop paying, your plan will roll back to the free Peacock option. This change only affects new Peacock customers.

From a source at NBCUniversal:  “As part of Peacock’s growth strategy, we are shifting our focus to the Premium offering which is more reflective of the brand and the unique experience we can bring subscribers.” Our source went on to say, “focusing on the Premium tier allows Peacock to create the best experience for a majority of viewers, remain competitive in the marketplace and deliver unique content across all genres.”

According to the most recent numbers, Peacock has 20 million paying customers with 30 million total active users, including its free accounts. That compares to 46 million subscribers to Paramount+, 73.7 million Disney+ subscribers, and 39.4 million Hulu subscribers.

To help fix this, NBC has been moving some shows from NBC to Peacock, including the long-running ‘Days of Our Lives’ show. NBCUniversal hopes this will drive more subscribers to Peacock.

Comcast, back in the summer of 2022 announced plans to stop offering Peacock’s free plans to select Comcast Xfinity customers last year. The hope is these customers will start paying, but many are skeptical of that plan.

Now though, it seems no one will be able to use Peacock without paying soon.
