Kumar went on to say, “While the current landscape is a challenging one for all media companies, PBS stations provide a unique and vital service rooted in education and local communities. Free and universal broadcast service are cornerstones of our nonprofit mission, which is particularly important in rural and underserved areas where local PBS stations may be the only media available over the air. At the same time, we are committed to meeting viewers whenever, wherever and however they choose to engage with our content. Passport and the new 24/7 PBS KIDS channel and live stream are two examples of how PBS stations are meeting the demand for more multiplatform content while continuing to serve all Americans.”
For now, while we are in a period of change for over-the-air TV with the TV repack happening and the new 3.0 over-the-air TV standard on its way over the next few years, PBS wants everyone to know they are committed to OTA TV.
