Paramount+ Orders a Galaxy Quest TV Series Based on The Movie

The late 1990s classic comedy spoof movie of Start Trek is getting its own TV services on Paramount+. According to Deadline, Paramount has ordered a full series to be released on Paramount+.

The original movie starred Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell, and Enrico Colantoni. There is no word yet on if any of the original cast will be joining the TV show.

A Galaxy Quest TV show has been in the works for many years. Originally Paramount tried to use the original movie cast to make a new show. Later there were plans for Amazon to release the show and work started on it in 2015 but the project ended when one of the main stars, Alan Rickman, passed away in 2016.

Galaxy Quest ended up being a bit of a sleeper hit as fans flocked to the show over the years, earning a cult status.

In the movie, stars of a 1970s sci-fi show (clearly Star Trek but not Star Trek) now make a living through re-runs and sci-fi conventions. During the movie, the stars are beamed aboard an alien spacecraft. These Aliens believing the cast’s heroic on-screen adventures are really historical documents, built a ship based on the TV show and ask the cast to help save the aliens in their quest to overcome the oppressive regime in their solar system.

Now the question is will this TV show be a retelling of the original movie, or if the series will continue from where the movie left off? For now, we will have to wait and see what Paramount announces at a later date.

Sadly we do not know a release date for the show or how far into production it currently is. As we learn more about this new Paramount+ original production we will have full coverage at Cord Cutters News.
