Obi-Wan Kenobi is the Next Disney+ Series to be Put on Hold

Production for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney+ has reportedly been put on hold and the crew for the series has been sent home.

Two sources told Collider that the crew was told the show would be put on hold “indefinitely” with no timeline given for when production might pick back up on the Lodon set.

Reportedly, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was unhappy with the show’s scripts. The sources told Collider “what will most likely happen next is the scripts will be reworked with the hopeful goal of reassembling this summer, but there’s always the possibility that that timeframe could shift.”

A separate source for The Hollywood Reporter said that only two scripts have been written and the storylines were could have possibly been too similar to those in The Mandalorian, saying “Kenobi story treaded similar ground as Mandalorian, seeing the Jedi master lending a protective hand to a young Luke and perhaps even a young Leia.”

Lucasfilms is now searching for a new writer to take over. The THR source also said the series will now consist of four episodes instead of six, as originally planned.
