Newsy is Launching a Nightly Live News Cast

Newsy the free news service that also offers a premium option is launching its first ever live newscast, “The Why.” The two-hour nightly news program, set to launch this summer, is a continuation of Newsy’s commitment to in-depth storytelling and marks the next step in the company’s expansion into longer form TV programming.

The Why is a continuation of Newsy’s popular Newsy Live (currently available on top streaming platforms like Sling TV). The Why and other in-the-works, made-for-TV programming is part of Newsy’s next steps of growth. This new growth plan seems to be Newsy is going from digital only to multi-platform news company.

Newsy will also be launching three new Original Series this summer:

“Dirt Rich” explores the unseen front lines of Middle America’s changing climate. Defying stereotypes and stigmas, the series digs into the blue-collar boom in renewable energy, the new fight for clean water and more.

“Sold In America” is an investigative series that dives into America’s unseen human trafficking crisis. The series shows viewers how this form of modern-day slavery unfolds on American highways, in its cities and around some of its most famous events.

“Varsity Gamers” takes a look at esports, or competitive video gaming, a fast-growing, half-billion-dollar industry. The series offers a compelling window into the day-to-day lives of gamers under some of the country’s first college esports scholarships.
