Last month, Newsmax announced that it will be launching a new dedicated streaming service called Newsmax+. This service replaced Newsmax TV, which offered a free feed of Newsmax to anyone who wanted to watch. No longer can Newsmax viewers see the same feed as cable TV customers did for free. Now they must pay or watch an alternate version.

“Millions of Americans are tuning into Newsmax, and we want to give them even more content they can stream at home or on their phones,” Chris Ruddy, Newsmax CEO, said of the new launch. “Subscribers will get all the breaking news, expert analysis, and commentary from Newsmax’s renowned contributors and pundits that you can’t find anywhere else.”

Now Newsmax has announced that 170,000 people have subscribed to the service. This comes at the same time that Newsmax announced its ratings are up 43% in Primetime year over year.

Newsmax said that it must launch this new service because of “cable agreements.” Earlier this year, Newsmax went dark on DIRECTV. The free stream was one of the reasons DIRECTV had to drop Newsmax. To avoid similar issues, Newsmax is ending its free stream.

There will still be a free feed of Newsmax, but it will no longer be the live main feed. Instead, they are launching Newsmax2, a free, separate second feed for streaming channels.

You can find this will be able to find it at NewsmaxPlus.com and on many streaming players, including Roku. The service will cost $4.99 a month or $49.99 if you prepay for a year.
