According to the executive order, all contracts with the state of New York will mandate that the provider must adhere to network neutrality, which will effectively force ISPs who want a contract with the state of New York to agree to net neutrality.
Earlier this week, Montana used the same executive order to mandate that any internet service providers who work with the state of Montana adhere to net neutrality principles.
According to the Montana executive order, internet service providers “must not block lawful content, throttle, impair, or degrade lawful internet traffic on the basis of internet content, engage in paid prioritization, or unreasonably interfere or disadvantage the users’ ability to select, access, and use broadband internet access service.”
As states move to save net neutrality there are also bills in Congress that would take net neutrality from a rule to a state law. Right now there are enough votes in the US Senate to force a vote on bills to restore net neutrality.
