Is a New Apple TV Coming? Rumors Suggest Next-Gen Device Release Imminent

Apple TV and RemoteRumors about the next version of Apple TV have been swirling for months now, but the latest tidbit suggests we’re closer than ever to seeing the 6th-Generation model officially unveiled. Apple tipster Jon Prosser shared a tweet earlier today outlining some of the specs that could be part of the next version of Apple’s streaming device.

Of note, Prosser predicts the new Apple TV will boast an A12X, a chip that debuted in the 2018-era iPad Pro and was itself a more powerful variant of the A12 Bionic that first appeared in the iPhone XS and XR lines. Storage options are rumored to bump up to 64GB and 128GB, doubling what’s available in the current-gen’s 32GB/64GB models.

Prosser also notes that this model is “ready to ship,” suggesting that a launch could come soon. And with Apple’s online-only WWDC set for June 22-26, the company could be waiting to kick off its conference with some hardware announcements. Of course, it could also announce it beforehand. With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic affecting production, travel, and more, Apple’s recent hardware releases have been relatively subdued affairs, skipping the usual fanfare of media gatherings and big press events entirely. So it’s certainly possible the company could drop the announcement at seemingly any time.

Of course, we’ll keep a close watch on Apple and any announcements it shares leading up to WWDC in June and we’ll keep you updated.
